Marten Mickos Biography
Marten Mickos is the CEO of MySQL, the fastest growing database company with over 6 million installations globally and who in less than 6 years has become the third largest installed database in the world (only behind Oracle and MS SQL Server). A native of Finland, Marten Mickos holds a strong track record of leadership in global high-tech companies. Since joining MySQL in 2001, he has built a profitable, sustainable business based on both open source values and support for corporate customers' needs. Many of the world's largest organizations, including Google!, Sabre Holdings, Yahoo, ABN AMRO, Cox Communications, The Associated Press and NASA are realizing significant cost savings by using MySQL to power high-traffic Web sites, business-critical enterprise applications and packaged software.
Mr. Mickos is a recognized and sought-after expert on the impact of open source development on the software industry. He has presented keynote and executive presentations on this topic at dozens of international conferences and tradeshows -- including LinuxWorld Expo, Always-On Innovation Summit, JP Morgan tech conference, as well as thought leadership forums at the Harvard and Stanford graduate business schools.
Prior to MySQL, Mickos was CEO at MatchON Sports, which he grew to become one of the hottest e-businesses in Europe at the time. He was previously CEO at telecom software vendor Intellitel Communications. Prior to that, he directed worldwide sales efforts at several technology companies.
