New CEO at MySQL AB

MySQL AB, the company behind the world's most popular Open Source database server, MySQL, today announced the appointment of Marten Mickos as CEO. Mickos brings international marketing and business growth skills to the company in a phase where it is growing rapidly.

Company founders, Michael "Monty" Widenius and David Axmark from Finland and Sweden, welcome a change at the helm. "We are proud to have taken the company to where it is today. Now we have asked Marten to bring MySQL AB to a new level where Open Source thinking and sound business go hand in hand. With Marten building organisation and business, we may focus our efforts on further developing the product and building the MySQL community."

Marten Mickos, age 38, has been involved in growing Nordic IT companies since 1986 when he co-founded a software and services company. Marten also was a co-founder of MatchON Sports Ltd. He previously was CEO of Sonera subsidiary Intellitel Communications Inc, and has held sales and marketing positions at Solid Information Technology Ltd and other growth-oriented software companies.
